The official language of Thailand is Thai. The Thai is a member of the Tai languages, in the group of the Tai-Kadai family with the origin of Southern China. The Thai is also spoken among some minority ethnic groups in Burma, Malaysia, Laos and Vietnam with over 20 million speakers. It is a tonal and analytical language with the combination of tones, a complex spelling, numerous accents and a distinctive phonology.

Thai alphabet: the Thai language has 44 consonants, 15 vowel symbols that combine and form at least 28 vowel shapes and 4 tones. Thai has its own numerical characters based on the Indo-Arabic numerical system but Western normal numbers are widely used.
